Socks

I’m looking for recommendations.

Did the run sockless last night, and today there’s a couple of tender spots on my foot. No actual blisters, per se, but after a couple of weeks of running sockless and a couple runs on sand, there’s enough grit imbedded in the shoes to rub.

So I’m wondering what y’all wear – I’ve been pretty content with plain cotton ankle socks, but with an imminent increase in mileage, might “invest” in a couple of pairs of fancy socks.

That I’ll was after every use.

  1. i wear the wrightsocks, and swear by them. ken, my distance partner, has picked up some fancy ones by…um…asics?…with some nice built in fitting features. all are wicking and ankle high. quick on, work well when they’re soaked. i rarely have blisters in them.

i did some research on socks, and found a brand that i’d like to try. they make the socks that richard got from the buffalo half marathon he ran last year. erm…bison. if i remember correctly, they were seamless and sewn to fit the foot very well. hang on, let me see if i can track it down…

nope, not seamless, but pretty darn trick all the same:

looks like they’d be a good choice for multi-sport activities. =)

  2. I’ve been wearing Wigwam C-T Distance AC – fairly cheap as technical socks go, and they’ve treated me much better than my old cotton ones (especially when I got caught in a rainstorm last week).

  3. I wear Wrightsocks too. The double layering is very easy on the foot. I’ve never had a blister. My son wears them too but his heel picked up a blister because the sock didn’t sit high enough on his heel to avoid the shoe chafing. Wright socks are pretty inexpensive unless you don’t wash them and throw them away after each use.

  4. Ahhh! My dirty little secret is out! Ummm, so I was just kidding…really. I never rewear my socks…I, umm, was just trying to generate a little “buzz” over at my blog. Yeah, that’s it…

    (I’m a very poor liar)

I’m going out to buy a few more pairs today. First, though, I’ll have to empty my savings account at the ATM :-)

  5. Being a poor student, I’ve found an affection for Target’s Champion sport socks with cushioning in all the right places as well as being thin and made of cool max like material. 2 pairs for $5.
